TGT Turns 3 (Months)!
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Ok, so it’s not that old, but I am very pleased with how much we’ve grown and how fast! I’m grateful that so many people have shown such interest in the site so far. The idea that even just one of our visitors has changed some part of their life to be more green, really warms my heart. I hope that our trends continue and we reach many more people over the next 3 months, and beyond! Spread the word, spread the green, spread the knowledge!
If you’d like to see the exciting graph showing our growth, click below (as usual) to read on!

What is a RSS?
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Since many have yet to utilize it I think that people may just not know of the convenience of RSS feeds. Simply put, a Rich Site Summary (RSS) is a tiny xml file that is updated every time a new post is published to a website that supports RSS. This allows the subscriber to be instantly updated when their subscribed sites publish something new
How do you read an RSS? That’s easy, there are many programs out there that allow you to read them on your desktop, through your email client (like Outlook or Sunbird), or through Firefox.
How do you subscribe to an RSS? The easiest way is to use Firefox’s wonderful Live Bookmark option. If you don’t use Firefox already, then you should switch! Now that you’ve got a great browser, click on this
(or similar icons) on your favorite page (Think Green Thoughts!) and Firefox will prompt you to save the bookmark as a live one. These live bookmarks are viewed like a folder but within them is a list of the current posts (and a short description) that is updated automatically for you. Just click on them to see the full post. Easy as pie.
To subcribe to Think Green Thoughs, click on our new RSS icon below the sidebar on the right. Happy Feed Reading!

Design Update
Monday, September 29, 2008 at 6:44 pm
I have optimized the design quite a bit, eliminating a large amount of bandwidth waste by getting rid of the huge background we previously had. I will be continuing to update the look so keep watching. Along the way comments would be much appreciated since my opinion of “good looking” isn’t always popular!
Thanks for reading!

Climate Change: Avian Impact
Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 11:39 am
Though the future amplification rates of global climate change effects are debated among many the past effects are quite clear. Most birds are migratory, which means they change latitudes and climates to breed or find food, seasonally. Though many perceive their journey as trivial it is a very complicated and dangerous one. Each individual must prepare adequate amounts of fat, reorganize their internal organs’ sizes to avoid extra weight, all while retaining the ability to find their way on their non-stop or several-stop route. These long flights aren’t always taken at the leisurely height of 1500 ft, some birds will fly up to 20,000 ft in order to avoid drag. To get to such a height the birds will expend a good amount of energy and simply hope to drift the rest of the way, many won’t make it. Because migration is so integral to nearly 95% of speicies that live between 40° and 50° N latitude, changing climates can cause great commotions, even on an annual basis. During an El Niño in 1982 and 1983, abrupt ocean current changes and heavy flooding caused complete reproductive failure, adult mortality, and the disappearance of entire seabird community on Christmas Island.[1],[2]

On a side note, I could use some more news/info/sites to post here, I can’t do it all alone! Send in your ideas! Comment on the posts, or email me!

If You Must Buy Stuff, Buy Green!
Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 9:24 am
Rate It Green is a site dedicated to connecting the consumer with products that are, you guessed it, green. They offer a multitude of resources including; ratings on products and services, forums to discuss green products, green building tips, and a library of links to other related sites. Their ratings page provides information on items ranging from bio-based lubricants to detergents to storm-water management.
Such a bountiful resource should be more than welcomed in the life of any person whom considers themselves green. They took the time to make this and continue to expand it, the least you can do is find one thing on their that could replace one product you already use, and switch to it. Read reviews, learn about your household items and see how you can alter your surroundings in attempt to reduce your ecological footprint.

Who Can You Trust with Your Land?
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 1:43 pm
For over 25 years the Land Trust Alliance has been the champion of conservation land management and acquisition. This group made up of hundreds of local advocates for better conservation policy and development criterion, has provided large interest groups (ranging from towns to entire states) as well as individuals with better options for their land and it’s future than simply selling it to developers.

Do You Love Fresh Food Too?
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 7:35 am
I consider myself a decent cook so when it comes to good ingredients, I know that freshness and organic are a must! There is no denying the increased quality of taste in organic foods, not to mention the health benefits so it is no wonder someone thought it smart to create a site dedicated to uniting farm foodies! This social network of farms and foodies provides it’s users with the ability to advertise their farms, look up other farms, and read bulletins about recent harvests! There is also a blog with some very cute stories on their site. You may have to register to see all the details, but it is worth the few seconds if you are a farmer, a foody, or just a curious person!
While exploring their home page I stumbled upon another great site, which helps you find local and sustainable farms to buy from. Since this is all definitely a more reliably green resource, I will place it on our connect page for easy access in the future.
