Some Recent Ad Efforts

Friday, March 27, 2009 at 9:11 am

I subscribe to a few great sites like 1sky.org, climateproject.org and wecansolveit.org all of which make efforts to raise awareness through the almighty boob-tube which is all too often slathered with anti-environmental products and services. Some of the more recent ones have been rather popular and even one was directed by an academy award-winning pair of directors! Check them out after the jump.

The Sense of Urgency is Just Not There Yet

Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:56 am

Climate scientist find that our situation is worse than we’d previously realized with nearly every advance in predictive warming models. So, why aren’t the media and government making it clear that the paths we plan are just not going to do the job fast enough to avoid more permanent damage? Over at 1Sky they realize this and have (for the first time) disagreed with Obama. His “reduce emissions to 1990 levels by 2020″ plan is far too little, and by then, far too late. The people with the money (oil companies), the agonizingly slow pace of mindless-bureaucracy, and the inevitable lack of foresight that comes with the “I ‘ll be gone by then” syndrome are the reasons which are slowing us down and will be the cause for the devastation our future generations will see. If you want to stand up against these fools, check out this 1Sky’s petition. Don’t just send the letter, spread the letter, spread the news and spread the sense of urgency!

Why hasn’t Obama strengthened his target? After all, he has made global warming a top priority and said his decisions will be grounded in science. A recent speech from Obama’s top climate negotiator provides the answer. Speaking about the 2020 target, the negotiator said: “At the same time we are being guided by the science and doing the math, we cannot forget that we are engaged in a political process and that politics … is the art of the possible.”

Any climate targets will have to pass Congress. President Obama is concerned there isn’t enough political support for the strong pollution reductions that are needed–that corporate lobbyists and Washington insiders are more likely to pay attention to policy details like a 2020 emission reduction than citizens and voters like us.

Let President Obama and congressional leaders know we’ll provide the grassroots support that will make stronger pollution reduction targets possible.

Let them know you care and you’re not ignorant of the danger that awaits!

Al Gore & PowerVote – Webcast on Energy and the Election

Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 1:58 am

In case you missed the webcast last night I have outlined the discussion and Q&A from the thirty minute segment with Al Gore and the leader of PowerVote.org.

The webcast began with a brief intro made up of sound bytes and video clips of Gore’s past speeches (notably the Challenge Speech). It focused on the global climate projections made by the IPCC, the reliance on fossil fuels, and the lack of anything but baby steps in the right direction by the government. We were reminded that JFK made a promise in 1961 to put a man on the moon and bring him back safely in 10 years, but instead we did it in 8. The video ended by showing us that this new goal will change civilization as we know it and will keep it open for a bright future.

Crunch Time

Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 9:12 am

WeCanSolveIt.org created a great ad a while back and is trying to get ABC to run it during 20/20. So far they’ve failed to convince them enough people see it as important. Help them convince ABC to run the ad and inform more people about the problems we face.

Along similar lines, I recieved an email recently from GreenJobsNow that contained a great message about clean coal that needs to be spread to the media and public so that ignorance does not continue. The following are the contents of the entire email. Spread it to your friends, family, anyone, help keep people aware of the issues.

Annie Leonard’s The Story of Stuff

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 6:15 am

Brought to my attention by Leah D. via facebook, this epic journey through the production line tells of the dark truth behind how much our country consumes and simply, throws away. The video on her home page is about 20 minutes long but worth every second. Annie puts in simple terms the linear path of resources as they travel from ravaged lands to toxic pumping factories through underpaid retailer hands, into our homes only to have 99% of those things thrown out within 6 months of them arriving. One of the things she brings up is something known as “planned obsolescence” which everyone should be wary of in order to be a wise consumer, so pay close attention.

I really enjoyed this video and since she has it layed out so well, I’ll leave the rest of the talking to Annie. You can find a bunch more info on her site, so explore it after you watch the video!

I’ve added an event to the Green Calendar, courtesy WeCanSolveIt.org;

Join us and tens of thousands of Americans of all backgrounds for an unprecedented National Day of Action calling for Green Jobs Now: Build the New Economy.

On Saturday, September 27th, the We Campaign, 1Sky, and Green for All will hold events across the country to send the message that it is time to Repower America with 100% clean electricity within 10 years and lift people out of poverty.

September 27th is only one week away, so sign up to host or attend an event today! It’s easy and it’ll be fun.

The solutions to our climate crisis are simple. Make the switch to clean, renewable energy, end our dependence on fossil fuels, and revitalize our economy. With energy costs and utility bills increasing unchecked, and millions of green collar jobs at stake, there is no time to waste.

Changing America’s Path

Friday, September 12, 2008 at 5:33 pm

An acquaintance of mine, Judith H. sent me this recently and I found it very helpful and interesting.

I am not sure where you are on the upcoming election but I can not imagine 4 – if not 8 – more years of;

* Reliance on Mid-east oil and carbon sources of energy
* Delay of investment in renewable energy
* Avoided environmental issues
* Pandering to oil companies
* All the unrest and war expense that results from this approach to energy and the environment

From all my research and background, I know Obama is on the right side of these issues and, for this reason alone, I am working for him. All the other issues – jobs, the economy, education, healthcare will suffer if we do not get this energy situation sorted out.

* There are 55 days left to the election.
* Gore lost to Bush in NH by 7,211 votes.
* Half of NH voters did not vote in the last election.
* Most of the NH voters are still undecided.

The Obama campaign is looking for people to work in NH. Some say the electoral count at a 269 statistical tie so every state counts. NH could tip the balance.

To see how you can help – Go to: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/mahome

Click on: Drive for change & sign up

There is a group in Andover working on the campaign. Here are other things you can do.

* Host a cell phone bank in your home – the Obama campaign will help you with this
* Go to the Feingold office – 38 Essex St, Andover – this Thursday evening at 7:00 for a phone bank
* Go to the Feingold office next Wednesday and Thursday evenings for the phone bank
* Host a party in your home – the Obama campaign will help you with this

There is not time to waste. Please forward this to your MA, RI, CT, VT, & ME friends.

I hope this helps get more people active in what is so obviously not a fight between Democrats and Republicans but one between a bright future and one that will only lead to more destruction.

Tell Everyone Behind You Something!

Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 4:21 pm

Who loves bumper stickers?! I do? Actually I don’t have any on my new Yaris yet, but you can sure bet on me putting this one on there!

The money made from these stickers will go to running the webserver with the remainder going towards a green organization that will be announced (soon).
